Engineer Khurram Dastgir-Khan




Engineer Khurram Dastgir-Khan was appointed Minister for Power on 26 April 2022. Serving currently his third consecutive term in the National Assembly of Pakistan, he led the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Commerce during 2013-18.

He has also served as Chairman Privatisation Commission and as Chairman of Federal Textile Board. As Minister of State, he held portfolios of Commerce & Textile Industry, Privatisation, and Science & Technology.

Trained as an engineer at California Institute of Technology, Mr. Dastgir-Khan also holds a degree in Economics from Bowdoin College; both in the United States. He is a Life Member of Pakistan Engineering Council. He was schooled at Cadet College, Hasan Abdal.

At the Ministry of Defence, Engineer Khurram Dastgir-Khan steered approval of the augmented Armed Forces Development Plan (AFDP) 2018-2030 and successfully enhanced resources for Ministry of Defence.

During his tenure at the Ministry of Commerce, Minister Khan revitalised Pakistan’s trade diplomacy. He led the successful campaign to obtain GSP+ trade preferences from the European Union, revamped national trade-defence laws, and managed Pakistan’s accession to the UN-TIR convention.

Minister Dastgir-Khan energised Pakistan’s engagement at the World Trade Organisation and revived his nation’s quest for global market access. He initiated and directed negotiations for free-trade agreements with China, Turkey, and Thailand.

During 2008-13, he earned distinction as Chair of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Commerce and as a member of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir as well as the Public Accounts Committee. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Standing Committee on Energy and the Special Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir.

Khurram Dastgir-Khan was elected from his native city of Gujranwala to the National Assembly of Pakistan in 2008 and re-elected in 2013 and 2018. Affiliated with Pakistan Muslim League-N, Mr. Khan serves as the central Vice-President of his political party.
